Breaking Radio Silence - Upcoming ARTC Shows
From the newest Press Release:

"We here in radioland hope that everyone out there had a fantastic Thanksgiving and that you're ready now for the holiday season!

Every year the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company brings you An Atlanta Christmas, a seasonal celebration of that most festive time of the year seen through Southern eyes. This year is going to be even more special for a few reasons. First, we've expanded Christmas this year by performing it in two places.

First up, we have our return this weekend to Memorial Hall in Stone Mountain Park. Here's the details on that:

Saturday and Sunday, December 8 and 9
2:00 pm and 4:00 pm
Memorial Hall inside Stone Mountain Park. (Memorial Hall is the building at the top of the lawn facing the carving on the mountain).
Cost: FREE! (although getting inside SMP will require a nominal parking fee or a Mountain Membership).
Come on out and hear some ARTC favorites, some of which will only be performed this year at Stone Mountain!

Next we have yet another appearance at the Stage Door Players in Dunwoody. Check this out:

Saturday, December 22 at 8:00 pm
Sunday, December 23 at 2:30 pm
Stage Door Players
5339 Chamblee Dunwoody Road
Dunwoody, GA 30338
Phone: 770-396-1726 (reservations strongly recommended)
Cost: $10
A full two hour show with all your favorite Atlanta Christmas pieces, as well as a few new ones never heard before. If you've seen An Atlanta Christmas before, you need to come on out and see it again for the first time with selections that have been locked in our filing cabinet for far too long! Plus caroling, Christmas trees, elves, and most importantly, Christmas memories.

An Atlanta Christmas was originally written for the stage by Thomas E. Fuller and adapted for audio by Daniel Taylor. It is a series of vignettes describing the holiday season as seen through Southern eyes.
Mr. Fuller's vision was to have a modular show that could be expanded as the years went on, adding or subtracting pieces to fit the times, keep current, while still evoking those wonderful Christmas memories that we all share through imaginings of what Christmas has meant to various people throughout the history of the South. For one day a year, the Theater of the Mind gives way to a warm hearth and a bowl of gingerbread
and when from the roof there arises a clatter, it's neither a faceless monster nor a Martian.

It's Christmas."

looking for the Artoo mailboxes in the Atlanta area
Today is the last day for the Artoo mailboxes to be in use here in the US; they will be replaced tomorrow and sent overseas to military bases, according to different things that I have heard and read.

The only one that I have seen here in Atlanta was on Peachtree across from the Hyatt Regency; we saw it at Dragoncon, but for some unknown reason (try really busy and very, very crowded con), we never got back to take pictures.

So, two questions:

1) does anyone know where any other Artoo mailboxes are in the metro area?

2) does anyone have pictures of them?

Btw, the jedimaster section at the USPS site is gone, so there's no way to actually check a list now for the Artoo mailboxes. :(

Any help, especially where to find the others that are here in the metro area, would be greatly appreciated.

Hoping someone here might be able to help
My apologies if you've seen this before, but I'm trying to help a friend who's pretty much been abandoned in your general area.

Copied from my LJ: Hey, I've no idea if any of you guys reading this are in that general area (I think it's outside Atlanta). My friend Dana (the one who stayed with me a couple months ago) was kicked out of the home in which she was working (unpleasant circumstances not her doing), and is now nearly broke and stuck in a fleabag motel in Gray, Georgia.

She's got several prospects lined up, but nowhere to go in the meantime.

Does anyone have, or know of, a place she might stay? She's in a real desperate situation. Any idaas, please let me know.

So far, has very kindly offered a place in her home in Americus, which is 90 miles away. And we have an offer of a ride, should Dana find a place in the Atlanta area.

If we can find a closer place for her, that would be ideal. (She needs to be able to get to an airport)

She's okay for the night (paid for another at the motel),but is really looking for options. She's a very nice, solid, 36 year old woman, and a good friend of mine. She has excellent references and is quiet.

Thanks for your input!

Take 3....
I kind of suspect this one got drowned in the Holiday Posts and then the attacks on London.

So, once more with feeling....

Shall we try again? Some friends and I have of late been getting together for Sunday Brunch on the Third Sunday of the month. If folks are interested, shall we try for it for July? I was thinking we could either try for the book we were going to read last time, try for a film, or try it as a 'bring your latest chunk of work and let us dissect' kind of thing.

Brunch would be partially provided (I'm good for waffles, bacon & coffee), and partially pot luck. I'm in Morningside, relatively convenient to I-75, 85, 400, and not too far in from the Perimeter. Parking is relatively ample. How does it sound?

book club
So, based on the poll, looks like 1st choice would be Sunday afternoon, 2nd choice, Saturday night. I'm good with either.

I've never done a poll, so I'm going with the Sunday option unless the day itself shifts something...and now were down to a tie between Luck in the Shadows and Foreigner.Or possibly both -- compare and contrast styles and characterizations?

Is May 1st too soon?

Hey, I just found this group and figured I'd say hi.
I love Harry Potter, Labyrinth, Lord of the Rings, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Sabriel, the ballet version of dracula that was at the fox recently, and a bunch more things but I don't  feel like listing them all.

I also love costumes and Dragon con. Is anyone here planning to go to Momocon?

Mardi Gras!
Tuesday is Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday.

Anyone up for some pre-Lenten* fun? Maybe a traditional pancake dinner? Or someplace for foufy cocktails?

I think anything that involves leavening, meat, alcohol, cards, and/or gratuitous sexuality counts as appropriate for the day.

*why yes, I do use the liturgical calendar as an excuse to eat, drink, and be merry.

When last we saw phosphors on this page, there was a call for suggestions for outings. Anyone up for a movie and escape from the madness of mass consumption? Suggestions welcome, I was thinking 'National Treasure,' and am open to location confab....

Greetings from the co-admin
We've picked up two more members this week!

Welcome, y'all!

So anyone have any ideas for upcoming get-togethers? Is there interest in going to the Eddie Izzard signing at Tower on the 19th?

First Post
Hello, all. I had no idea a community existed for fan of things of which I'm a fan. :D

My primary interests these days are:
Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, Miami CSI, NCIS, Lost, ER, Star Trek: Enterprise, Venture Brothers, Futurama and Family Guy.

Weather Wardens (Rachel Caine,) Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter (Laurell K. Hamilton,) Most anything by Douglas Adams, a rekindling interst in Kim Stanley Robinson and Neil Gaiman in any printed form.

I've been to Dragon*Con two of the three years I've lived in Georgia and look forward to attending more frequently now that I've relocated closer to the Perimeter.

And if you've seen "Orange852," "justalurkr," "peach852" or "cmorgret" on SG-1 mailing lists? Yup, that's me.

12:31 pm

I forgot to post this earlier. There's been a change in plans for tonight. Thermidor and I are going out with sinden tomorrow night. Taking her around the fun spots in midtown and then a fun (inexpensive) dinner somewhere in the area.

If anyone can go now, let us know. I'm not sure the exact time - around 5:30/6pm - but I can call and let you know.

Shenanigans Declared
I was IM'ing earlier in the day to some friends about what a huge mess tomorrow's election will be. Michael Moore is setting up his cameras in FL and OH; both sides are lawyered up. I doubt we'll know who the president is in 36 hours.

In the spirit of this, I declare Shenanigans. As in the South Park episode "Cow Days". Please take note, and construct an icon accordingly in order to relieve any election day stress.

Luckily for those of us in the ATL, we have Jimmy Carter and the ghost of MLK watching over us. Our shenanigans should be sent telepathicly to those in need.

Was it ever decided where we might be drinking?

I'm already getting nervous about Tuesday.

Is anyone up for election watching either in person or online?

I'm going to vote before work Tuesday and I get off work 5ish in Midtown. Have car, will travel.

Dinner on Friday, November 5!
An Australian friend, Sin, is in town. I was hoping to do a dinner with other fen on Friday, November 5. She's staying at the Hyatt (a place many of us know so well :) ) and I was thinking of doing dinner around there (although I had another idea which is a Vietnamese place on Buford Hwy - let me know your preference and I'll check and see if she'll eat that too. :) ).

Dinner at 6:30pm or 7pm? I'll put the place up soon. Either Micks, the Brew Pub down from the Hyatt or the Vietnamese place. I know we're all on a budget. :)

Sin is active in SG, XF, Highlander and sparkly boys. *grins* Let me know if you can come.
